Basic Course in Salzburg & Ruhpolding completed
The IBU Academy successfully concluded its Basic Course 2025, designed to introduce foundational biathlon coaching knowledge to aspiring coaches. The six-day program took place across several locations: the Sports Center Salzburg-Rif, the biathlon World Cup venue in Ruhpolding, and at the IBU Headquarters.
This year’s course welcomed 19 coaches representing 17 different National Federations, highlighting the truly international character of biathlon development. Through an engaging and intensive week of theory and practical modules, participants deepened their understanding of the sport’s multifaceted demands.
The course was led by IBU Educators Rafal Lepel (POL) and Martina Seidl (GER), whose guidance ensured a well-structured and insightful learning journey. In addition, participants benefited from a lineup of renowned lecturers, each bringing specialized knowledge to the program:

Steffen Hoos – Waxing Knowledge
Hannes Kock – Motor Skills Development
Engelbert Sklorz and Gerold Sattlecker – Shooting Fundamentals
Tanja Winterhalder – Skiing Equipment

Dagmara Gerasimuk – The Business of Sport
Each session contributed to building a well-rounded skill set, preparing the attendees for their future roles as effective and knowledgeable biathlon coaches.
Reflecting on the week, Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy, emphasized the course’s importance:
