First Level Course 25/26 Starts in Hochfilzen

The IBU Academy successfully started the new First Level Course 25/26 with the first education week in Hochfilzen, Austria, from 4–10 May 2025. A total of 20 coaches from 19 different National Federations joined the course, showing once again the international spirit of the IBU Coach Education.

The group included a strong representation of female coaches, with 13 women and 7 men participating in the course. Their diverse backgrounds and perspectives enriched the collaborative atmosphere throughout the week and contributed to a well-rounded exchange of experiences.

Focus on Shooting and Skiing Technique

The main focus of the week was on shooting and skiing technique. Practical sessions on the ski roller track and at the shooting range were led by IBU Educators Armin Kasslatter (ITA) and Dominik Windisch (ITA), who shared their experience and knowledge in a clear and hands-on way.

The course also included several expert lectures that covered important coaching topics:

  • Lucie Rothauer – Anti-Doping

  • Tanja Winterhalder, Steffen Hoos, Thomas Wünn – Skiing, Waxing, and Rifle Equipment

  • Gerold Sattlecker – Shooting Technique

  • Stefan Lindinger – Skiing Technique

First Para Biathlon Session

For the first time, the First Level Course included a dedicated Para Biathlon session. Coaches had the chance to learn about working with athletes in the visually impaired (VI), standing, and sitting categories. They also tried out the equipment themselves. This session was led by Robin Wunderle (GER) and Max Long (GER) and was a great learning opportunity for all. It showed the importance of making biathlon coaching more inclusive.

The IBU Academy is excited to continue this journey with the group as they move on to the next parts of the First Level Course 25/26.
