IBU Research Grant 2024/25 - Final Presentations

On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, the Research Grant Working Group and members of the Development Department attended the final presentations of the projects funded by the IBU Research Grant Programme (RGP) for the 2024/25 season.

This annual event connects the latest scientific findings with the practical needs of coaches and athletes, fostering an exchange where research meets performance. This year, representatives from three universities presented the following research topics:

  • Monitoring and Managing Menstrual Cycle Symptoms in High-Performing Female Biathletes: A Biopsychosocial ApproachKerry McGawley, Mid Sweden University

  • Physiologic and Biomechanical Effects of Manipulating Rifle Carriage Position (High vs Low) and Harness Tightness (Tight vs Loose)James Becker, Montana State University

  • Symptoms of REDs and Mental Health in Young Biathletes, and Coaches’ Knowledge of REDs and Eating Disorders Therese Fostervold Mathisen, Østfold University

Each project aimed to provide new insights into the sport of biathlon, addressing various aspects of performance. The discussions and Q&A sessions highlighted how research-driven evidence can directly inform athlete health, training efficiency, and coaching practices. The findings and practical applications from these studies will be shared with the biathlon community through the IBU LearningSuite, continuing to strengthen the sport’s development through science-based knowledge.

Stay tuned for the detailed research reports.
