Regional Basic Course 2025 in Jakuszyce, Poland

Advancing Biathlon Coaching in Eastern Europe

The IBU Academy successfully concluded its fourth Regional Basic Course, held from 1 to 6 September 2025 in Jakuszyce, Poland. Against the backdrop of early autumn weather and the scenic Jakuszyce venue, the course brought together 20 motivated young coaches from Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania. This intensive course, with a strong focus on empowering local coaching talent, once again delivered high-level coaching educational and practical tools, specifically tailored to meet the needs of club coaches in the region.

High-level Coaching Education

Under the expert guidance of IBU lecturers Ilario Maddalin (ITA), Luca Bormolini (ITA) and Dr. Gerold Sattlecker (AUT), the course covered key aspects of modern biathlon coaching, focusing on shooting, skiing technique, leadership and communication, as well as endurance and strength training. It employed a hybrid learning format, combining online education through the Learning Suite with in-person training sessions.

The course was further supported by professional advice of local IBU assistant Rafal Lepel (POL), who highlighted the importance and long-term impact of the Regional Basic Courses on national coaching development:

“The IBU course is a unique opportunity for local coaches to gain new knowledge delivered by the IBU Academy educators. Moreover, the format, which brings together coaches from different countries, allows for building new connections and exchanging knowledge and experiences. I strongly believe that coach education is the key to the growth of our sport, and initiatives like this course play a crucial role in improving standards and driving future development."

The IBU Academy extends its sincere appreciation to the Polish Biathlon Federation for their excellent organization and warm hospitality. Their support, together with the dedication and enthusiasm of the participating coaches, made the Jakuszyce course a true success.

Looking Ahead: Regional Basic Courses 2026

Building on the success of previous editions in Kazakhstan (2024), Japan and Croatia (2025), the course in Poland once again highlighted the value of collaboration between National Federations in strengthening the foundations for the future of biathlon coaching.

As part of its ongoing commitment to grassroots coaching development, the IBU Academy will continue the Regional Basic Course series in 2026. If you would like to bring the Regional Basic Course to your region, at least two National Federations need to collaborate.
