Second Level Course 2024/25 concluded
Last week marked the successful conclusion of the IBU Academy Second Level Course 2024-25 with a vibrant and inspiring final week in Ruhpolding, Germany. This final module brought together 16 coaches from 13 different national federations, completing a 10-month educational journey that began in Oberhof in September 2024, followed by a second week in Lillehammer in April 2025.
Final Week Highlights
The final week was led by experienced educators Uroš Velepec and Jonas Johansson, who guided the coaches through practical sessions and conducted assessments. Each participant was tasked with planning and executing a full training session — an essential part of demonstrating their applied knowledge and leadership in a real-world context.
The week also featured insightful lectures from a lineup of distinguished experts:
Prof. Øyvind Sandbakk – Training control, monitoring, and testing
Dr. Katja Mjøsund – Eating disorders, overtraining, and underperformance
Prof. Thomas Finkenzeller – Sports psychology
Lucie Rothauer – Sports integrity
Dr. Benedikt Fasel – GPS systems in training
Sebastian Eisenhut – Strength training & skiing technique
Prof. Kerstin Hödlmoser - Sleep & Recovery
Celebrating Achievement
The course concluded with a special certificate ceremony on Friday evening, where Max Cobb, IBU Secretary General, and Gerold Sattlecker, Head of IBU Academy, presented the certificates to the proud graduates.
It is nice to see how the coaches have developed in the last 10 months. If you see this group, you know why we speak about the Biathlon Family,” said Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy.
