Webinar on Kids Training – Key Principles for Success

On 16 July 2025, the IBU Academy hosted an international webinar titled “Kids’ Training: Key Principles for Success,” attracting over 300 registrants and up to 160 live online participants. The audience included coaches, athletes, and staff from around the world, all eager to deepen their understanding of how to build strong foundations in training, development, and motivation for children and young biathletes.

Expert Presentations

The webinar featured two highly respected international experts who shared valuable insights into key aspects of children’s training, including age-appropriate methodologies and the development of motor skills and coordination.

  • Andreas Karström (Sweden) presented training methodologies tailored for children aged 8 to 15 and provided detailed schematics with practical examples of age-adapted training programs.

  • Michael Mayrhofer (Austria) outlined core principles for developing motor skills and coordination, offering specific training examples appropriate for young biathletes of different age groups.

Their insights helped participants better understand how to design effective, developmentally appropriate training programs for young biathletes while avoiding early specialization.

Best Practice Sharing from Top-NFs

The webinar concluded with best practice sharing from Sweden, Norway, and France, sharing their knowledge on how to successfully introduce shooting to kids and integrate it with physical training.

  • Jonas Johansson (NF Sweden)

  • Kristina Dale – Skjevdal (NF Norway)

  • Christophe Vassallo (NF France)

“The webinar provided valuable insights and practical examples on how to build solid foundations in training for children. It highlighted that avoiding early specialization can significantly contribute to the long-term development of future elite biathletes,” said Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy.
